Hovannes Tumanyan Museum
In 1949, in order to perpetuate the memory of Hovhannes Tumanyan and preserve the poet's legacy, a decision was made to build a museum in the capital city of Yerevan. The opening ceremony of the first building of the museum took place in 1953. on April 5, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the poet's death.
According to the project of Ara Aghababyan, the second building was built, where the exhibition covering Tumanyan's life and activities took place. And on the second floor, a copy of the poet's Tbilisi apartment was completely restored, with personal belongings and furniture.
Most of the samples displayed in the museum are unique in terms of their historical, cultural and social significance, and some are relics: the poet's manuscripts, personal library, personal belongings. The museum's collection has more than 19,656 exhibits. Here you can also see works of art: paintings, drawings, sculptures, samples of applied art, photographs, archives of the poet's family members, etc.
The memorabilia section includes personal items belonging to Hovhannes Tumanyan and his family members, household objects, fine art pieces and commemorative photographs. The written sources section includes all manuscript and printed materials. autographs of the poet and his family members, Tumanyan's personal library, the press published during the writer's lifetime, prospectuses and other documents.
The fine art section includes non-memorial fine art works: paintings, illustrations, applied art samples acquired by the museum by purchase or donation, as well as photographs of exceptional historical and cultural significance.
Hovhannes Tumanyan Museum is currently closed. For this reason, the museum operates at a different address: "Hrant Matevosyan Cultural Center-Museum". The description of the permanent exhibition unfolded in the building of this center is different, because most of the exhibits in the museum's collection are deposited in other cultural institutions. Only some samples of Tumanian furniture and fine art are presented here. On the first floor, the bookshelves of the poet's personal library are displayed and the theme "Tumanyan and the book" is presented to the visitors. In the center of the hall is the furniture of the Tumanyan family's living room, and the right corner is dedicated to the poet's wife, Olga. On the second floor, the Vernatun theme is presented in the form of posters. In the center of the hall is the furniture of Hovhannes Tumanyan's office, then a part of the dining room is reproduced.
